YMCA Junior Cricket has been operating since 2005. The club was formed by a group of parents with a common interest in seeing children taught the rules, etiquette and skills of cricket.
The club is open for boys and girls to join and currently have teams playing in the U/10, U/12, U/14 and U/16 Bundaberg Junior Cricket Competition.
By the end of the 2014 - 2015 season the club saw three teams claim the premiership with the other team coming second. Great results for the club and especially the players who worked very hard during the season. Even better than these results is that nearly every player returned for the following season.
The club has an excellent coaching system in place. We are fortunate to have Mr Reg Rowe, a long-time coach and administrator of Junior Cricket, as our head coach. Each team is trained by a dedicated volunteer who provides the players with exceptional coaching on a weekly basis. The club also has Cameron MacDonnell who is a level 2 accredited coach and spends his time helping out other coaches and players as required.
Our training facilities are at the YMCA complex in Quinn Street Kepnock. Here we have 2 nets covered with Gabba grass. The club also has a diverse range of training equipment that can be used to enhance sessions including side arm throwers, a bowling machine, and coloured balls.
Our aim is to encourage children to enjoy the game as well as encourage their parents to become involved in some way. We have had players progress to Bundaberg representative teams and some who have progressed to represent Wide Bay and Queensland.
The club has a very dedicated committee who are continually providing an excellent supportive environment for players. The club runs extra cricket clinics throughout the year (even during the off season) to help players improve their skills. Some of the clinics have included a batting clinic run by Terry Oliver (ex-Queensland Bulls Coach), our own 2 day clinic run by the club and a 3 day clinic which will be run by Terry Oliver, Vic Williams (ex-Queensland high performance coach) and Peter Drinnen (ex-international coach of Holland and Canada).
We are continuing to grow and would welcome any new player enquiries.
