The YMCA Bundaberg (BYMCA) has developed a great partnership with the Port Curtis Coral Coast Trust Limited (PCCC) who represents the First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng and Taribelang Bunda Peoples and administers the First Nations Bailai, Gurang, Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda People Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (PBC) in the Bundaberg, Gladstone and North Burnett regions.
PCCC Staff Sueleen Mewburn and Jakarni Appo have been running a very successful Indigenous Homework Club every week at BYMCA in the later part of 2020. Working with these students has been an absolute delight. BYMCA has been able to support them with bus transport to and from the Homework Club, access to the Y-Amazing Maze, cooking classes and access to the various outdoor areas at the BYMCA complex in Quinn St.
This service to our local indigenous community is providing much needed educational support, cultural activities, developmental learning opportunities and most of all a place where students can feel accepted and have fun.
